Changing the executor of your will

On Behalf of | May 13, 2018 | Wills |

When it comes to wills, there are all sorts of different challenges that may arise and our law firm has covered many on this blog. However, there are far more questions and concerns that people may have with respect to their will, such as changing the executor. There may be a variety of reasons why you have decided to change the executor, from ending your marriage to becoming estranged from the person you have named the executor or losing confidence in their ability to carry out these responsibilities. Regardless, it is important to approach these issues with care.

If you are certain that you wish to remove the person you have named as the executor and assign these duties to someone else, you should carefully review the ins and outs of your circumstances. Moreover, you should familiarize yourself with the relevant laws in your state and make sure that the new person you have decided to name as the executor is fully capable and willing to take on these responsibilities. For example, it might be a good idea to have a discussion with this person beforehand and discuss your estate plan with them.

For some people, dealing with these types of estate matters can be stressful, but many find that taking care of these issues can provide a sense of calm. Our page on estate planning covers other topics related to changing the executor and some considerations that you may want to take into account with regard to your estate.
