1. Why choose us as your lawyers?
First, choose us for our experience and knowledge. With more than 35 years of combined legal practice, we have expertise in a wide variety of practice areas. We continue to expand our knowledge by actively participating in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the Massachusetts Chapter of NAELA, and the Massachusetts Bar Association, and by regularly participating in advanced legal seminars. Patrick earned his law degree at University of Michigan Law School, one of the top five law schools in the country, and Mark earned his law degree cum laude at Suffolk University Law School.
Second, choose us for our teamwork. We work together to serve you better. With two lawyers working on your behalf, you benefit from service that is twice as efficient, quick, and responsive. More importantly, we back each other up to ensure that an attorney is always available to address your legal emergencies.
Third, choose us for our commitment to communication and access. Communicating with clients is a top priority to us. In order to better serve our clients, we have integrated the use of cell phones, email and voicemail in our law practice. Add to that a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend appointments, as well as appointments at clients' homes, hospitals and nursing facilities, and you will discover that we are a full-service, client-oriented law firm.
Fourth, choose us for our trust and integrity. As a father and son team, we provide our clients with an assurance of trust and integrity from our family to your family. Our reputation is known and respected throughout Wakefield, the North Shore, and beyond.
Fifth, choose us for our compassion and temperament. We treat every client with the utmost respect. We are compassionate, friendly attorneys who are fulfilled by helping people achieve solutions to their legal problems.
2. What are our rates?
Our rates vary depending on the complexity and nature of your legal issues. During our initial office consultation, we discuss the circumstances of your case, agree upon an acceptable fee arrangement, and execute a detailed fee agreement. In most cases, we require a retainer payment, which serves as a credit from which future attorneys fees and costs are drawn.
Generally we charge an hourly rate. There are two broad exceptions: First, for estate planning services and MassHealth Applications, we generally charge a flat rate fee. This means that you know the total cost of our representation before we commence work. Second, for personal injury actions, we charge a contingency fee. This means that we earn our fee from a percentage of the recovery. If there is no recovery, we do not earn a fee.
Finally, we used the most advanced billing software so that we can provide our clients with invoices reflecting detailed descriptions of the work performed on each day, the exact number of hours worked, and the fees and costs generated.
3. How long will it take to resolve my legal problem?
We endeavor to resolve your legal matter as soon as possible. In many cases the speed of resolution is dictated by the courts and time requirements imposed by Massachusetts statutes. By way of example, both divorces and probates of estates are subject to statutorily-imposed time delays. In addition, budget reductions in the last few years have severely impacted the court system and created additional delays. But we do everything in our power to achieve a speedy resolution to your legal matters.
4. My legal concerns are highly confidential and private. Can I be sure this information stays private?
Absolutely. Your confidences are protected by the Attorney-Client privilege. We will not share any information without your explicit approval and release (i.e. to talk with your accountant or to request your medical records).
5. Do I really need a lawyer?
Yes. The law has become so complex in the last few decades that non-lawyers expose themselves to considerable risk by proceeding forward without legal advice. Most often, if you are facing a legal issue, the other individuals involved have the benefit of legal representation (for instance, the buyers or sellers in a real estate transaction, other partners in a business transaction, relatives in a probate estate, spouses in a family law dispute). We provide confidence, security and protection to our clients so that they can rest easy at night knowing that we will zealously advocate for their best interests.
